Climate Change Café May 10, 2008, 2-5 p.m. at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center 925 Riverside Drive, Reno Free admission (donations appreciated) Please RSVP by March 18 by e-mailing wendyjony@yahoo.com
Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in the Climate Change Café. On March 29, the Nevada Coalition for Climate Protection hosted Reno’s first Climate Change Cafe. Part two of that Café will be held on May 10, and we have room for about 25 more people than we had on March 29. Our last Café was very well attended and many attendees have already expressed their desire to join us on May 10, so please RSVP to wendyjony@yahoo.com or call 852-2881 . Even though the second Café builds on the first, each café is a complete experience unto itself. If you weren’t present at the first café you will easily and quickly be brought up to speed, thanks to the the graphic representations from the first café that will be displayed. The Climate Change Café is a participatory workshop that has the potential to empower our community to become part of the solution. It provides and opportunity to explore what keeps us from taking action and together create the inspiration needed to take personal responsibility and action in our own lives and in our community. It’s also a chance to connect with neighbors who share similar concerns; to hear your neighbors speak about what is currently going on environmentally here in Reno; to interact with people who are already involved and doing things to help our environment. One of our goals is to facilitate a process amongst all of us that will help with resources, communication, and a sense of strength and power. The conversation process we will be using is based on the successful World Café model, ( www.theworldcafe.com ), a large group dialogue format. This process has been used with excellent results in such diverse venues as the Girl Scouts of America’s annual conference, the Mexican governmental process and in large multi-national companies. When you know the facts, you know what an important issue this is, so please consider joining us. We also would appreciate any help with letting the community know of this unique event. We would especially like to include as many young adults as possible recognizing how invaluable their input is. Climate Change Café is an inspiring community forum for brainstorming and conversing about how we approach the issue of global warming. The process itself encourages inquiry and discovery.
Climate Change Café is modeled after World Café (www.theworldcafe.com), a discussion technique used worldwide for hosting conversations about questions that matter. The goals of café-style conversations are to make visible the collective intelligence of any group and help articulate the community’s common aims.
At Climate Change Café, you’ll be able to interact with a broad cross-section of friends and neighbors in a frank, open conversation on ways to respond to the looming climate crisis. Inspiration and new ideas, networking, and unification, are all a natural outgrowth of this process. Are you up for it? Then make this a priority...
